The haka and bitter argument has now escalated to out and out war. The battleground is the old Pa site.

Of course many of the Kati Noho tribe’s younger warriors are no longer here, they are nearby in Moorhouse Town. It is too late for a runner to raise the alarm to call them back to aid their people. So it is the women of the Kati Noho who step forward to the front line with weapons in hand.

The remaining villagers fight with great strength, but they cannot prevent the killing of their Chief.
His death is also the death of an era...a proud people are defeated and it is the end of the chapter of traditional Maori.

Te Ao Huri, for all of his power with a musket, is struck down with an unknown illness. The sickness also takes his only son. The mantle of leadership of the Rebel Warriors must now be taken by Uitara.
